Article from our December 2007 Journal
Bella is the touching story of two people who find each other and spend the day together inNew York City. Jose, a former Mexican international soccer star working in his brother's restaurant meets Nina, a waitress who has just received unexpected news of being pregnant and losing her job.
The producers say "However it is so much more than that, it is about love, life, family and destiny. It is about all these big things but essentially it is really just the story of two people and the people they meet over the course of a day. The fact that you laugh, cry and maybe even cheer is testament to this little film with a very big heart."
Bella is a movie about a crisis pregnancy with a pro-life message! The sub-title is 'True Love goes beyond romance' and shows that love is not limited to the shallowness of sexual conquest that we so often see in movies today.
The film's lead actor, Eduardo Verastegui, was a rock star in Mexico. He was challenged about his immoral lifestyle and became a Christian a few years ago. He thought about leaving the entertainment industry but instead decided to set up a company called Metanoia to produce ethical films with Leo Severino, the producer of Bella.
The film was launched at the Toronto film festival where it won the Peoples' Choice Award and received a standing ovation. In the USA, it was rated PG-13. When launched in the USA in late October, it grossed over $1.3 million in 3 days.
Texan Governor Rick Perry wrote "Not only will 'Bella' give you hope that Hollywood can still make an inspirational movie, it might also renew your faith in humanity. Free of the pessimistic worldview that so often darkens today's movies, it is a simple story about a woman who faces tough choices and experiences the impact of one broken man's kindness."
Bella has a message of life and hope, showing how we should "live for others".
It will be released in Australia on 21 February 2008. Why not see it with friends!___________________
