Federal Election 2001

The Federal was held on Saturday 10 November 2001. The Liberal/National Party Coalition won the election by gaining a majority of seats in the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives has a total of 150 Members: 69 Liberal Members, 13 National Party members (these are in Coalition), 3 Independents and 65 Labor (ALP) Members.

The Senate has a total of 76 Members: 31 Liberal Party, 3 National, 1 Country Liberal (NT), 9 Democrats, 2 Independents, 1 One Nation, 1 Greens and 28 Labor.

The balance of power in the Senate is held by the Democrats.

We encouraged all voters to:

1. Research the current issues.
2. Contact all candidates in their to find out beliefs.
3. Find out what each of the major political parties believes on moral issues.

A set of ten questions was provided to assist people in asking relevant questions.
