Kittens Carwash
Kittens car wash in Bentleigh ordered to REMOVE 'promotion' of sex Update: May 2008
Residents of Bentleigh East in Melbourne (including some of our readers) have run a long campaign against a 'Kittens carwash' in their suburb on Warrigal Road which they claimed did little more than promote an associated 'Kittens strip club'. Bikini clad girls abounded and a bus promoted the strip club. The local council, Glen Eira Council, eventually agreed and took a case against Kittens to VCAT. NOW VCAT has agreed! VCAT has found that whilst they had a permit for a carwash, the main activity was, in fact, to promote sexually explicit entertainment venues. VCAT has ordered that Kittens carwash "must immediately cease the use of the carwash land for the purpose of promoting sexually explicit entertainment venues from the land". VCAT ordered that they must reduce car wash staff from eight to two, remove promotional billboards and put up a fence on the Warrigal Road site by August 13.
