Back flips and broken election 'promises'The following email about Julia Gillard's proposed 'carbon tax' was sent on our E-News email on Wed 2 March 2011. "Julia Gillard went to the election promising us two things in relation to 'Global Warming', aka 'Climate Change' ... Firstly, "I will establish a citizen's committee on the emissions trading scheme". Secondly, "There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead"  Now, just 6 months later BOTH promises have been broken.  Clearly, one reason for these broken promises is the formal 'alliance' she made with the Greens and independents in a desperate attempt to hold on to POWER. But Gillard knew, when she shook hands with Bob Brown, that dealing with the Greens would come at a cost on the issue of 'climate change'.  Let us not fool ourselves, both sides of politics could be said to have engaged in back flips. For instance, it is said that John Howard changed his mind on a GST ... however, there is a major difference - he went to the polls with the changed policy before implementing it. But, anyway, two wrongs do not make a right. Honesty and integrity are clearly lacking in too many of our political leaders today as is 'evidence-based' decision making which has been replaced with focus group politics and following the people.  Take, for instance, the report on Labor's poor performance at the last election, part of which was released last week. It states, according to The Australian "LABOR must win back voters lost to the Greens by advocating stronger action on climate change and supporting gay marriage, ...and urges the government to do more to court votes in immigrant communities." VOTES - that is the key. Not evidenced based decision making, not honesty or integrity but bending toward other small Parties such as the Greens to stop the drift of votes. . . How long before the Sex Party are seen to steal away votes from Labor or Liberals and they need to support pornography in order to hang on to power? Our morality is decreasing almost by the day - not because these things are suddenly good for society but because governments want to stay in POWER.  But back to that First promise, "I will establish a citizen's committee on the emissions trading scheme". Not only has Miss Gillard reneged on that election promise, she has instead instigated two very biased groups to persuade the people of Australia that climate change is man-made, that we have the power to do something about it, and, of course, that we the people can afford to ignore the rest of the world and pay anyway. Yes, despite not wanting to sound like Tony Abbott,  Labor and the Greens are determined that WE will pay a new tax. A tax that will greatly increase your energy, water and food bills. Even though we do not know what that 'tax' will be, ANY increase in costs to industry and power generation will always be passed on to the consumer. The figures the Liberal Party are using are based on $25 a tonne - the Greens want a price of $45 a tonne according to the Greens' Adam Bandt in Parliament last week. Bandt also stated that the Greens want a "ZERO Carbon world". What does that mean when we breathe out carbon (in the form of carbon dioxide) and plants/trees require it to grow?  The rhetoric from Miss Gillard sounds remarkably like a return to Kevin Rudd's 'Greatest moral challenge', and yet according to a number of media commentators, it was none other than Julia Gillard who was responsible for Rudd's delay/reversal on this issue - which eventually brought him down!  And who is really driving the agenda today? The Greens. Her 'multi-parliamentary committee' has Green Senators Bob Brown and Christine Milne as deputy co-chairs, and is totally committed to putting a price on carbon. Her 'Climate Commission' is chaired by none other than Tim Flannery - who is totally committed to a carbon price - and it is stacked with 'pro' global warming enthusiasts. Even 'sustainable development' groups are saying this, partly because there is no 'expert' in sustainable development on the Commission.  A recent Galaxy poll, commissioned by the Institute of Public Affairs, has found that only a third of Australians think the world is warming due to human carbon dioxide emissions. No change from 8 months ago despite all the bad weather claimed as proof that climate change is real by the Greens and others...  Of course, we all know that climate change is real, it always has been real, ever since the world-wide flood. It is the cause that is disputed, and rightly so when there has been so much deliberate fudging of evidence to try to show 'man' has caused it.  As Christians we need to discern the truth because it is ONLY the truth that will set us free. We need to go back to God's word where so many prophesies it contains have already come true - Matthew 24 tells us very clearly 'And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."  Could this explain what is happening in the Middle East right now and last week in New Zealand?  BUT then in verse 13 JESUS says "But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."  WE NEED TO LOOK UP - NOT DOWN at the earth. As we said on the front cover of our February monthly Journal "If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this."
