Celebrate Marriage Week

This week is 'Marriage Week' - from 11 to 17 September, 2011. Man_and_woman_married_SX_1038218_66480936_320x200

A great time to celebrate marriage.

We often talk of the definition of marriage that was inserted into Australia's Marriage Act in 2004 -
"marriage" means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life."

We also often write about the threat to this definition of marriage by those who want to endorse homosexual 'marriage'.

This week, let's focus on the importance of marriage as defined by God.
Genesis 2:24 says "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." This was repeated by Jesus in Matthew 19: 4-6
"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." (NIV)

The Marriage Week website - has articles, a 'Marriage Bank' of ideas to support marriage and more information to help you celebrate, affirm and strengthen marriage.
Please pray for marriage - for individual couples you know, for your own marriage if you're married and for marriage itself.

Our September 2011 journal had an article about Marriage Week...
