12 November 2001

The election has come and gone. The Coalition government has been returned with a slightly increased majority. In the House of Representatives, the likely result is Coalition:78; Labor: 66; Independents: 3 and 3 in doubt.
In the Senate, from July 2002 (when the new Senators take their place), the Coalition will have 35, L
abor will have 28, Democrats will have 7 or 9, Greens will have 1 or 3 and there are 2 Independents (Brian Harradine, Shayne Murphy - previously Labor).
From our comparison of the party policies on a range of moral and ethics issues, we believe that Australia has been given another opportunity to 'turn around'. If the government had changed, we would have had heroin trials, injecting rooms and the recognition of homosexual relationships.
We pray that Australians will look to God for the real answers of life and that many more Christians will step into the public square to be more involved in the political processes that will determine the future of our nation, Australia. Our next Journal (December) will include an 'Election Reflection' on the results of the election and future directions.

A Family Rally "Families at risk - from lesbian and gay law reform" will be held in Perth, Western Australia this Thursday 8 November at 12 noon at Parliament House.
This rally to support marriage and family is endorsed by many churches and para-church groups in WA under the name "Standing Together" and is being held to oppose the pro-homosexual legislation being proposed by the Gallop Labor Government.
These groups took out a large advertisement in the West Australian on Saturday 3 November to advertise the rally and urge people to write to the Premier opposing the legislation.
ACTION: If you live in WA please support this campaign and contact the Premier and your local Members. If you live elsewhere, please pray that this legislation is not passed.
