State election results round-up . . .

Podium__Mic-Vote_for_me-SmallThe two state elections held last weekend, on Saturday 20 March, have both resulted in a swing away from the Labor Party to the Liberal Party.

In Tasmania, the Greens have picked up around 20 % of the vote and neither party has a majority of seats. In South Australia neither party has claimed victory yet, but Labor is expected to win.

Tasmania

In Tasmania there is a 'hung parliament', with neither of the major parties having a majority of seats. The counting of votes is still continuing, but it appears that Labor will have ten seats, Liberals will have ten seats and the Greens will have five seats.

Prior to the elecGreens_signtion both Labor leader David Bartlett and Liberal Leader Will Hodgman, said they would not form a minority government with the Greens. Both leaders had agreed that whichever party had more seats would form government and if they had the same number of seats then the party with the larger vote would form government. meanwhile Nick McKim has said he is expecting one, or both, leaders to contact him!
