Casino for Mildura...

Roulette_wheel_-_Stock_Exchange_320x200A proposal has been made to build a casino in Mildura. Casino developer John Haddad has released concept plans for the riverfront Jewel Casino at Mildura.

The casino will cost an estimated $400 million and will include a 220 room hotel and convention centre.

According to Mr Haddad, it will include ''a couple of hundred poker machines and 40 to 50 tables''.

A local group has been set up to oppose the casino development. Ross Douglass, of the community group Sunraysia Against Casinos, said they opposed the development for a range of reasons - including the social damage and the impact on businesses.

So how much money do people lose at casinos?
A LOT!
The article in The Age says "Gamblers lost more than $1.2 billion at Melbourne's Crown Casino in the past financial year".
