Homophobia - and drugs
Two issues today... not connected but both in the 'news'!
With a Victorian election just six weeks away, the Brumby government has announced a 'new initiative'... a "Safe Schools Coalition".
What's wrong with that, you say? We all want 'safe schools', don't we?
However, this move is all about promoting homosexuality and giving money for the establishment of 'gay-straight' alliances and training to combat 'homophobia'. They have set up a special website for this: Safe Schools Coalition In fact, the Victorian government is giving $80,000 for the program - and an extra $20,000 to train teachers how to combat 'homophobia'.
Is it because an election is coming soon? The media report mention the fact that the Labor government is facing a threat from the Greens in the Victorian election to be held on November 27 - in fact, the biggest threat is against Education Minister Bronwyn Pike, who announced the policy - and is reported to have a homosexual son and support same-sex 'marriage'!
We should be combating any form of bullying - not emphasising one particular aspect as this program does.

On drug injecting rooms
Meanwhile the NSW government has finally decided that they want to make the Kings Cross drug injecting room 'permanent'. The 'Medically Supervised Injecting Room' was started in 2001 - as a trial. Every time it came up for 'review' there were huge issues... the problem is that there are more overdoses in the area of the injecting room, the addicts buy their drugs illegally in the street before using the centre and addicts are given the wrong message about drug use. Drug Free Australia has done a revealing Update on the failure of the injecting room: * A 4 page Update * A 69 page 'detailed evidence' paper.
The NSW Legislative Assembly passed the Bill to approve the injecting room on October 21 - after several Liberals voted with the government. Read ABC report.
The Bill now goes to the Legislative Council.
ACTION: NSW residents, please contact ALL Members in the Legislative Council - ask them to oppose this move. Click here for names and contact details.
