This week....

1. Victorian Election
The Liberal/Nationals Coalition wins the Victorian election by one seat (counting still not absolutely confirmed - click herefor election results at the VEC). Ted Baillieu has been sworn in as the new Premier (report).

Ted Baillieu has called for an end to 'political correctness' surrounding celebrations of Christmas - he said schools should be allowed to hold nativity plays and sing Christmas carols! Read report and Herald Sun editorial.

2. NSW MPs and pornography claims
An independent review into previous claims that NSW MPs or staffers had accessed pornography from their offices has been concluded and handed to the NSW parliament. The report claims that some of the sites accessed may include child pornography. The matter has been handed to the state solicitor and police may be asked to investigate. 4. World Cup Bid fails
The focus on the bid by Australia for the soccer World Cup shows the priority that many people give to sport. For many it is a 'religion'.
But the bid has failed with only ONE vote from the 22 member FIFA executive!

5. South Australia - euthanasia
The South Australian parliament's Legislative Council defeated a motion put up by a Greens MP to legalise euthanasia. A formal vote wasn't taken - but it would have been 12-9.
