Parenting is a huge responsibility - God designed the family with mum and dad to provide for the proper nurturing of children. The following two items in the news show how some people have distorted that...
1. Couple abort twins A Victorian couple has aborted the twins they were expecting. The twins had been conceived through IVF. Why? Because the babies were boys - and they wanted a girl!
The couple already have three sons and apparently want a girl to replace the infant daughter they recently lost shortly after birth. They have applied to the authority in Victoria (Aust) that regulates the use of IVF and the Patient Review Panel refused permission for the couple to 'select' a female baby through IVF - because 'sex selection' IVF is banned in Victoria (unless it is necessary to avoid the risk of transmission of a genetic abnormality or disease or the Patient Review Panel has approved such using of an embryo). The couple is now planning to take their case to VCAT with a hearing due in March. The couple told the Herald Sun that, if they lose their appeal, they will go to the USA where such practices are legal. [Read report. Also here.]
2. Euthanising' a disabled child? "An inquest at Glebe Coroner's Court is investigating whether a two-year-old's drowning in a pool at her Northern Beaches home was the result of a "deliberate act" or a tragic accident." The child had been diagnosed with Rett Syndrome - apparently the parents had asked about foster care for the child and also 'asked health specialists whether euthanasia was "legally possible".' [Read media report] The inquest is looking at whether the parents were involved in the drowning.
As we said at the beginning... "Parenting is a huge responsibility!"
Meanwhile - some good news on the parenting front . . . Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark have just had twins - a boy and a girl. The babies have two older siblings - Prince Christian, 5, and Princess Isabella, 3. (Read media report.) Congratulations!
