GetUp! warned by the AEC
In the 2007 election, GetUp! ran a website called 'How Should I vote'- but it always suggested putting the Coalition LAST no matter what information had been submitted by a voter. The AEC said the website was "misleading and deceptive" - they warned GetUp! not to run a similar website during the 2010 election, and threatened to seek an injunction against the group for breaching electoral laws if it did so. Senator Eric Abetz said his colleague Andrew Robb had answered all the website's questions in favour of the Coalition - but had been advised to vote Labor by the website. The Age reports that "Senator Abetz has accused GetUp! of being a front for Labor and the Greens, and wants it classed as an "associated entity" by the AEC, so it is linked to a political party." The information on GetUp's election vote website was revealed during questions by Senator Abetz to the AEC during Senate Estimates hearings. Well done, Senator Abetz, for revealing the true nature of GetUp!'s activities! Read the article - click here. Read Senator Abetz' statement about this revelation from the AEC about GetUp!
