On this issue, the science really isn't settled...
Given the fact that PM Julia Gillard said there would NOT be a carbon tax under a government she led, this is a betrayal of the electorate. The fact that the Greens hold the balance of power is a vital ingredient in this decision to impose this tax.

But why have the Independents tied themselves to this course of action? A good question!
Of course, having done so, they need to maintain support for the government or else they may lose their seats if the government were to fall!
