TV program: Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
Update: 24 Feb 2005 Good news!!!! Channel 10 has just announced that the Australian version of "Queer eye for the straight guy" would not continue due to its' poor ratings. The third episode, shown this week, was the last - at least for now. There is talk of using the remaining episodes in conjunction with the running of the second US series later in the year. Thank you for writing! ___________________________________
10 Feb 2005: TV in Australia just got a whole lot worse. The Australian version of this TV show portrays five queer men transforming a 'straight' man - including his apartment, his clothes, teaching him to cook...... The program started with them driving their Volvo (a sponsor) out of 'Bent St' into 'Straight St'. The program has a lot of sexual innuendo and stereotyping. Of particular concern is that it is on at 7.30 pm in the evening. In the first program (Melbourne), a condom ad was shown at 7.55pm!!!!
ACTION: We encourage people to contact Channel 10, asking them not to screen this program - in particular not to screen it at the early time of 7.30pm when many children are still watching TV.
