Prayer in the Victorian ParliamentDecember 2001 Completed campaign... RESULT: The original call to action was: URGENT PRAYER and ACTION NEEDED The Lord's Prayer could be 'alternated' with other prayers from other 'faiths' in the Victorian parliament. This is being supported by an 'Anglican Vicar' in Dandenong ( Janet Turpie-Johnson) who is of aboriginal descent and leads an 'interfaith network'!!! This push stems from the FALSE premise that we are a 'multicultural' state. Because it is virtually impossible to separate a 'culture' from its 'religion', if we accept 'multicultural' then we lose the identity of our Christian Heritage and become a multi-religious or 'multi-faith' country. We believe Australia MUST retain its Christian heritage and its Christian 'culture'. This does not stop people having other 'faiths' but it states the underlying faith and foundation of this nation is Christianity. Naturally this is not a popular thing to say in our increasingly secular society but we Christians should not settle for less. This country was founded, and the federation of Australia established, on Christian principles and we want those principles upheld in our parliament. No other religion has a foundation like Christianity - No other religion should be recognised, in this nation, in this way. ** If this proposal is adopted will they intend to say satanist or Wicca (witchcraft) prayers as well as Buddhist, Islamic, Christian ? ** Are non-Islamic people allowed to say Muslim prayers? ** Will our government ask Muslim countries to say Christian prayers because Christians live there?
