Victoria has a Legislative Assembly (88 Districts each having one Member) and a Legislative Council (40 Members - Eight Regions each having five Members).

Each voter has one representative in the Legislative Assembly.

Each voter has five representatives in the Legislative Council.

At the State election held in November 2006, the upper house, the Legislative Council, was altered. The numbers were reduced from 44 members to 40 members. The State has been divided into 8 Regions, each having five Members.

In the election held on November 27, 2010, the Liberal and Nationals Coalition gained more seats (45) than Labor (43) in the Legislative Assembly and formed government.  For election results, click here.

The Premier is Ted Baillieu (Liberal).

The Leader of the Opposition is Daniel Andrews, who replaced John Brumby (read media report).
